「標題殺人」往往會真的把讀者給殺了，如果今天您看到 Windows XP 要延長作業系統支援到 2015 年的話，那真的是大錯特錯！根據微軟官方的說法，Windows XP 延長的是系統防護，且依企業用戶或個人用戶提供不同的防護項目，並非 Windows XP 的完整支援。

從微軟技術支援週期查詢頁面可以查到 Windows XP 各版本的延伸支援終止日期為 2014/4/8，延伸支援階段僅提供安全更新、付費支援和非安全性的 hotfix 支援(需額外採購)，原則上過了延伸支援階段微軟將不再對系統提供相關服務，但考量到許多企業、機構還在進行系統升級的轉換期，因此微軟決定延伸提供防護保護服務直到 2015/7/14 為止，但原本會終止支援的服務仍會按時終止支援。

此次延伸保護針對企業用戶提供 System Center Endpoint Protection、Forefront Client Security、 Forefront Endpoint Protection 和 Windows Intune 防護功能；針對一般用戶則提供 Microsoft Security Essentials 防毒防護，使用者要注意的是，終止延伸支援後系統漏洞或 bug 將不再進行修補，及早更新系統才是最佳的解決之道。

順帶一提，防毒軟體的部分若原先就使用其他防毒軟體的話，記得升級到最新版並定期更新病毒資料庫。
