日本大賽第5戰31日樂天金鷹對決讀賣巨人隊，結果樂天在延長賽以4:2獲勝，順利取得3:2的優勢回到東北主場。

靠著菜鳥則本昂大力投79球「中繼」，樂天這一場勝利真的取之不易，不過賽後，星野仙一說：「還是希望在東北、仙台的各位面前被高高拋起(意味奪冠)。」

樂天3局上先拿下2分，當時換上則本接替只被打出1支安打的辛島航，結果則本7局下被村田修一轟出全壘打失分。
