TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office yesterday searched the office of Radium Life Tech Co. (日勝生) as well as the residence of Chairman Lin Loong-shien (林榮顯) and summoned five relevant staff for questioning over the investigation into the MeHas (美河市) project.
The MeHas project was a joint development project between the Taipei City Government and Radium Life Tech Co. in 2006 that built a housing complex near Xiaobitan MRT station (小碧潭捷運站). However, it was found by the Control Yuan that the Taipei City Government lost about NT$10 billion due to the fact that the land value had been intentionally underestimated in the project.
As a result, two officials from the Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS, 台北市捷運局), Kao Chiya-nong (高嘉濃) and Wang Ming-tsang (王銘藏), were taken into custody on Dec. 25, 2013 on charges of forging land assessment documents and enabling Radium Life Tech Co. to receive illegal profits. According to the Taipei District Court, Radium Life Tech Co. gained about NT$386 million in illegal profits from the project. Prosecutors also investigated the possibility that other DORTS staff members were involved.
Prosecutors also began a second investigation into Radium Life Tech Co.'s offices and offices at three affiliated companies, as well as the residence of the chairman.
Speaking on the ongoing inquiry, Radium Life Tech Co. pointed out that it will respect the law and cooperate with prosecutors to clarify this case as soon as possible. Radium Life Tech Co. also stated that it already provided several documents in relation to the MeHas case in the last investigation instigated by the Control Yuan in 2013.
All business practices at Radium Life Tech Co. will still be in operation during the investigation, the company said.
