曼德拉囚地獄島18年　監獄變博物館

【施旖婕／綜合外電報導】曼德拉坐牢27年，其中有18年在號稱「地獄島」的羅本島（Robben Island）監獄度過。羅本島是當時南非最大秘密監獄，島上囚禁了大批黑人政治犯。1999年聯合國教科文組織將羅本島列入世界遺產，島上的監獄也變成博物館。

曼德拉在羅本島的囚室只有4平方米，半年才可以見一次親友，牢房衞生環境甚差，又沒有床，曼德拉只可睡在地板上，更被迫到島上的石礦場上採礦，但他仍堅持在牢房跑步等運動來鍛錬身體。1982年，曼德拉被轉移到另一所監獄。身陷囹圄的曼德拉，喚起國際關注，由公開譴責到實施貿易制裁。

國內黑人的抗爭也不斷升級，1989年支持隔離政策的總統博塔（P.W.Botha）中風，柯勒克（F.W.de Klerk）繼任，決定取消種族隔離，隔年2月11日更釋放曼德拉。
